The Nature Park Puez-Odle is one among 8 nature parks in South Tyrol and covers the area around the well-known Odle Group and Puez with the jagged Cir peaks, as well as the beautiful alpine pastures on Resciesa, Stevia and Vallunga. Here you can discover various rock types, sedimentary layers and weathering forms typical of the Dolomites from when the primordial sea still covered the Dolomites. This is why geologists also call the Puez-Odle Nature Park the “history book of the earth”.
The nature park was founded in 1978 and it extends on 10,722 hectares, covering Val Gardena, Val di Funes and Alta Badia. The average altitude is 2,500 m above sea level.
Nature parks are of particular value for the conservation of nature and landscape, education and research, and for the opportunity to experience nature.
In 2009, the Dolomites Nature Parks were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and therefore received an additional status of protection.
